'Swap interlaced video field order' option

There needs to be a checkbox to swap the order of the fields of an interlaced video. There also neeed to be a hotkey to toggle that option.

Reasons:

• TV channels often broadcast H.264 or MPEG2 streams with incorrect field order (believe it or not).

• Many high-profile video encoding software suites produce incorrect field order.

It should be trivial to implement as a filter, but I really don't think this is an common (and well understood) enough feature to justify its own hotkey.

Here where I live about 20% of the videos I record on my PVR have incorrect field order. It depends on which TV channel you record.

You can imagine that I will have to do A LOT of field switching. You can also imagine that it is very cumbersome to have to open the preferences and search for the correct option every time.

Besides, a default key doesn't have to be assigned to the shortcut. It may be left up to the user to assign it. And adding one more shortcut (very useful for me) to the gazillion of shortcuts already there cannot be a real problem, can it?

You have the patch, you can compile and test it.

The malloc() and free() are useless in this case.

But is that really what the bug report wants? Wouldn´t it be simpler to invert the TFF/BFF boolean in the picture and let the deinterlacer deal with it?

It probably would be easier, yes. But then it should be in the core, as a new value for deinterlace ? (Off/On/Auto/Reverse)?

Because noone has given a sample.

I uploaded a sample with the file uploader (interlacedvideo.mp4), though it didn't give me a link to it. I'm hoping you can see that, but I can upload it elsewhere if needed.

The video is deinterlaced incorrectly when using the Bob, Linear, Yadif (2x), and Phosphor filters, and ends up being exceedingly jittery. When using all other filters, it is deinterlaced correctly, but as a result loses the video look.

Using ffplay, it does deinterlace correctly using Yadif, but only when specifying parity=0, as it autodetects the field order incorrectly. As ffplay has this option, this isn't a huge issue, but as you can't change things with VLC, it does become rather a problem.

Why not have an option swap field for all the interlaced videos? What's wrong with it? A lot of AVI files are encoded with top field first but VLC for some reasons assumes that if it an AVI file, it is bottom field first. This is wrong. It should be user selectable if the VLC plays field in wrong order.
