m4a No Longer Plays after 3.0.10 update

Platform Win 10 Pro 1903 for x64, latest security update installed

Installed up to date VLC for first time on this machine 3 or 4 months ago. Updated this morning to 3.0.10 from VLC update popup. m4a files had worked fine this morning. After update, audio works for a split second then nothing, but file keeps playing. Files are downloaded, local copies of podcasts and have worked fine for months.

Remedies tried: deleted preferences thru VLC, then deleted VLC folder from %appdata%

New remedies:

Rolled back to 3.0.9.2, problem persists.

Rolled back to 3.0.8, problem solved.
