uPNP not working, only on VLC 2.0.8 or older.

I've used VLC for many years, many thanks for his great software. Recently I enabled the mediaserver on my router and tried to test it with VLC. The VLC version 2.1.1 can't see my mediaserver (from Local Network - Universal Plug'n Play) I've downgraded to 2.0.8 and it works fine. Any version greater than 2.0.8 is not working.

My setup: CPU Intel E7400 (core 2 duo) Windows XP SP3

Try with a 3.0 nightly build, we fixed a lot of UPnP issues recently. http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/win32/vlc-3.0.0-20151211-0002/vlc-3.0.0-git-20151211-0002-win32.exe Those fixes won't be backported to 2.2.x since there are too many changes, and any version before that is not supported anymore.

"VLC media player could not start. Either the command line options were invalid or no plugins found"

I've made a fresh install, deleting previous settings and cache.

I would simplify to something like:

Thank you Melis. Ticket 15728 says it is a duplicate of #15589 (closed). I read both, can't find a solution. The last 2.2.0 win32 starts OK here but no UPnP. The last 3.0.0 still can't start.

Sorry, but if you cannot start VLC, this is not a UPnP error.

Sorry, it's then just the XP port that is broken.

1. VLC 2.0.8 sees mediaserver OK (so I think XP port is OK)
2. VLC 2.0.9 to 2.2.1 starts OK but can't see mediaserver
3. VLC 3.0.0 w32 exe and also zip can't start ("VLC media player could not start. Either the command line options were invalid or no plugins found" )

I hope it is clear now. Should I open a separate ticket for VLC 3.0.0 can't start problem?

Sorry, but the UPnP issue is fixed.

The fact that 3.0 does not run on XP is totally not about this ticket.

So, do not reopen this ticket, unless you have something to say about THIS UPnP issue.

I hope it is clear now. only clear is this Also, as more software and hardware manufacturers continue to optimize for more recent versions of Windows, you can expect to encounter more apps and devices that do not work with Windows XP.

The target is to keep XP support for 3.0 :D "How?" is still debated.

The problem persists after vlc 2.08 on several OS and versions involving: Mac OS X, debian, ubuntu, Windows 7 32 bit, windows 8.1 64 bit, Windows 10

I tested vlc-3.0.0-git-20160405-0402-win64.exe on Windows 10 today, and the problem still persists. No upnp ressource shows up. At least the original problem after 2.08: a vlc crash, was solved with one of the patches one year ago.

As the problem has a very long history ivolving many tickets, I guess an admin should close all other tickets and reopen this one.

Another suggestion would be to remove the feature from vlc as its broken since a few years, but this has to be decided by the devs.

UPnP works totally fine here in 3.0.

Either you provide logs or we can't do anything.
