Cannot use any subtitle with MPEG-TS file
It seems whenever I select a subtitles file (any subtitles file format) to be played with a .ts (MPEG-TS) file, VLC stops playback and closes. As VLC links subtitle tracks to video files, it is subsequently impossible to even play the ts file without subtitles.
I did some research and found the issue seems to be with libVLC itself and has been known for 8 years (https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/3075, https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/3516).
The issue appears to be some limitation in the ts playback implementation regarding timestamps. I admit I don't have any idea regarding these VLC internals, but as a user, I find it highly disappointing to see this important functionality left unsupported. After all, other players support it just fine. I really hope there is a way to support external subtitles for ts files!
I created this issue to merge issue #363 (closed) and #362 (closed) to one. You might also want to merge #358 (closed) into this one. Each of these individual issues is about ts and a specific subtitle format, when in fact the issue seems to stem from the ts video format and occurs with any subtitle format. I don't know how you orchestrate the different bug trackers, so as this is an issue with libVLC, you might want to entirely close the issue here. For now, I thought at least merging them here might be a good idea.
