CC background can't be adjusted

My vlc player is updated from 2.0.8 to 2.1.1 yesterday, running on Windows 7. In v 2.0.8 the subtitle background can be set transparent (opacity 0). But not anymore in v 2.1.1. Tried it in Tools -> Preferences -> Subtitles/OSD

1. uncheck Add a background -- no go
2. show settings all -- Videos -> Subtitles/OSD -> text renderer -> background opacity: 0 -- no go.

Please bring back transparent subtitle background like it was in v2.0.8. Much better that way.

My subtitles have transparent background (which is the default, IIRC).

Did you restart VLC?

I did restart VLC and it's the same.

Perhaps you were looking at the subtitle by selecting Subtitle -> Sub Track -> Track 1 (English). That subtitle will be whatever that comes with the video. I can't add background to it even if I set it so. What I want transparent background is actually the closed caption: Subtitle -> Sub Track -> Closed Captions 1. This is where I used to have transparent background in v 2.0.8. But no longer in v 2.1.1
