CDDB is not functionning: investigation NEEDED

no cddb request, no cover request,

• any CD in WMP cddb, cover yes
• any CD in Nero cddb, cover yes, cddb in Feurio, Powerdvd, TMT yes

is this right in VLC: freedb.videolan.org Port 80 ?

aber egal was dort geändert wird, es bringt keine Besserung, nach Hinweisen von Foren...

Also, ich wollte dies nur als Fehler melden, bin aber mit dieser Eingabemaske überfordert, weil ich nur ein Benutzer bin. Vielen Dank trotzdem für das super- gute- VLC!!!!

I can recreate the bug that no cddb information are downloaded. Fresh VLC 2.1.2 Install on a Windows 8.1 x64 System in the Program Files (x86) Folder (default path). UAC is active. After the first start the settings for downloading informations are asked. I keep the default settings that media information should be downloaded and automatic updates as well.

New Audio-CD (ASP Zauberbruder) opened. No cddb information are shown. Close VLC. Open VLC as administrator. Close it again. Now when you open it as normal user again the cddb information are downloaded just fine.

What happened? When VLC was opened as administrator the file "plugin.dat" in the plugins folder of the VLC install was updated.

I think the setting for getting the cddb information was saved in plugin.dat. As a fix I'd propose to use the User's application data folder.

I can't understand what is going on. Plugin.dat is the modules cache for VLC. unrelated to cddb...

It was a theory that those settings were saved in the plugin.dat. If it is only a module cache then there must be some other side effect so that those settings only get applied if VLC is started as admin.

Might be some interaction with cddb cache directory.

We have no logs, and I have no way to reproduce.

Works correctly for me as soon as the "album-art" setting is set to something different than ALBUM_ART_WHEN_ASKED (see cdda.c:591).
