Closed captioning incorrect and affecting video playback

I have tried playing the attached clip on several versions of VLC including the latest 2.0.8. The video plays back correctly when captions are disabled. However, when you enable closed captions 1, the video will occasionally pause, and the captions displayed get garbled. However, if you scrub forward and then back, sometimes the captions are displayed correctly. There seems to be inconsistent playback but most of the times the captions get garbled.

Does it work if you force threads to 1 ?

I'm using the Windows client. I went to Preferences -> Show all settings - > Video codecs -> FFmpeg and changed the threads from 0 to 1. This does seem to fix the problem. I've tried numerous times and the captions and video playback correctly now.

So is this a problem internal to VLC or could there be something in the video file that is causing VLC captions and video to get off sync?
