Preferences for dummies in OSX

It would be nice to have a simplified preferences panel in the different interfaces which only shows the really essential options in an easy to understand and use fashion. Current preferences which reflect the modules available and their hierarchy are impossible to understand for a first time user.

Clément and Antoine are working on this for QT4 targetting 0.9.0. Porting this to the OSX GUI should be quite simple afterwards.
