dvb subtitles not being updated correctly

This used to work with vlc 0.8.6c I'm now testing with vlc-1.1.4-6.fc14.i686 with a dvb stream of bbc news. The options for subtitles are:

+----[ Subtitles Track ]
| -1 - Disable *
| 5003 - Teletext - [English]
| 3 - Teletext subtitles - [English]
| 5005 - DVB subtitles - [English]
+----[ end of Subtitles Track ]

If I select 3 or 5005, then the subtitles are cleared far too quickly. It seems that when new words arrive, it causes the previous lines to be cleared.

Testing with 0.8.6c, one can read the susbtitles as they gradually fill the bottom line, before then scrolling up the line.

I tried tweaking various delay/timeout parameters in vlcrc to no avail. Any ideas appreciated
