VLC does not permit language / audio-track selection for "mms://" stream.
When accessing the following URLs with VLC 1.1.0: mms://vodlux.europarl.europa.eu/wmv/nas/nasvod01/vod0405/2010/wm/VODChapter_20100517_17050500_17052700.wmv?wmcache=0
The language preference is not respected and it is not possible to change audio-track.
The audio track selected is always track number 1 "Zulu" whatever you set in:
Tools > Preferences > Show settings: All > Input /Codecs > Track settings > Audio language
VLC know very well about the ASF format and the special GUID to talk about mutual exclusion of track and the GUID that describe the language for each audio track.
main debug: selected audio language[0] fr
main debug: selected audio language[1] any
access_mms info: selecting stream[0x1] audio (38 Kib/s)
access_mms info: ignoring stream[0x2] audio (38 Kib/s)
access_mms info: ignoring stream[0x3] audio (38 Kib/s)
asf debug: found object guid: 0x7c4346a9-0xefe0-0x4bfc-0xb229393ede415c85 size:193
asf debug: read "language list object" 23 entries
asf debug: - 'en-gb'
asf debug: - 'zu'
asf debug: - 'fr'
But VLC does not permet to:
- get the audio track you prefer
- see the list of available audio track
- change audio track
Those things do work perfectly when accessing a local file or accessing a file in pure HTTP download.
This problem has been described at the items B) in the following message: http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.video.videolan.vlc.devel/72992
