VLC 4 freezes and crashes on switching audio on certain videos

This might be related to 28468, however, there are significant differences.

Whenever I change language / audio track the video freezes but the audio resumes (with different language). At that point VLC is frozen and cannot even be closed (except with kill -9). When I then jump to a different position, like the start of the video audio also stops.

The log gets spammed with

However, with VLC 3 everything works flawlessly.

This only applies to certain videos. I cannot qualify the determining factors. They have in common that they are big (>1GB) but other big videos work fine (>3GB).
