Playlist File encoded UTF-16 LE silently fails import.
I recently received some mp3 files with an accompanying "wax" playlist file. When I attempted to open the wax file, it failed silently.
The message log for the failure showed:
main debug: file:///C:/Users/denst/OneDrive/Documents2/My%20Media/AudioBackup/Getting%20Things%20Done/Getting%20Things%20Done.wax' successfully opened
main debug: looking for xml reader module matching "any": 1 candidates
main debug: using xml reader module "xml"
xml error: XML parser error (line 1) : Document is empty
main debug: deleting item Getting Things Done.wax'
main debug: EOF reached
The text editor I used to look at the wax file handled the decoding transparently, and everything looked fine. I missed the little "UTF-16 LE" in the corner of the editor window for hours. As soon as I resaved the file as UTF-8, VLC imported the playlist and played the files without a problem.
Any chance non UTF-8 encoded playlist files could trigger a helpful warning in the future?
