VLC is not preventing sleep mode/turning off the screen
OS: Windows 10 22H2 VLC: 3.0.18
I have Windows 10 set to turn off the screen after 15 minutes.
VLC doesn't override this. After 15 minutes watching a movie the screen dies while the sound keeps playing. I have to go up to my pc and move the mouse or press a key in the keyboard to "wake up" the screen.
"Disable Screensaver" is set in the settings.
I've figured out a work-around until this gets fixed: Open a text editor and paste:
powercfg -change -monitor-timeout-ac 0
Start-Process -Wait "C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe"
powercfg -change -monitor-timeout-ac 15
Save as "VLC-Launcher_screen-turnoff-workaround.ps1"
Then go to any folder and Right click -> New -> Shortcut
Where it says "Type the location of the shortcut" put:
C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe -ep bypass -WindowStyle Hidden "C:\Users\User\Desktop\VLC-Launcher_screen-turnoff-workaround.ps1"
Finish setting up the shortcut, and you're done. That shortcut will automatically disable the screen-timeout while VLC is running. And when VLC is closed, it sets the screen timeout to 15 minutes. (all of this while the device is charging (AC Power))
