Playlist in PLS format does not work in 3.0.11 but does in 2.2.6

I have 3 machines, a Macbook Pro 17' Mid 2010 (VLC 2 2 8) and a Mac Pro also mid 2010 (VLC 3.0.11), and a Mac Mini (late 2011 (VLC 3.0.8) All machines are running Mac OS 10.13.6. Details if needed.

I am trying to process my iTunes repository into playlists to use with vlc. The initial goal is per album playlists but a subsequent goal is per "work" playlists for my classical music. I have written a program to produce the playlists.

I produced several sample playlists in m3u8 format. Some worked, some did not, probably due to the problem reported in #19567 (closed), [...] in file names as in "[Disk 1]" and the like. I then generated the same playlists in .pls format and none work under 3.0.11 but do under 2.2.8 (including ones with [...] in file names). In the former case, launching VLC by double clicking the playlist file causes VLC to flicker up, then crash. Running from the command line produced the attached log files.

When I hit the problem in 3.0.11, I brought in a hand clafted .pls format file, NYT5MinFlute.pls.vlc that I created on the VLC 2.2.8 machine and ran successfully on the 3.0.8 machine. It failed under 3.0.11 with the same symptoms as my generated playlists.

I have not tried the generated files on the 3.0.8 machine because the paths to the music files are different there and they would have to be regenerated for that machine. If it will help, I can regenerate the sample or edit it by hand for that machine.

I am attaching both playlist files, text files with logs from the 2.2.8 and 3.0.11 command line runs of the generated playlist. There are also images of the interface windows during those runs.
