Command Line Parsing bug
VLC 0.8.6i XP sp2
Commas in file names may cause command line parsing issues. Any comma in a file name will cause file name truncation when vlc tries to actually create/use the file in a recording.
Eg Recording something with the parameters:
:sout=#duplicate{dst=std{access=file,mux=ts,dst="C:\MyVideos\bjh\test with comma, truncated, Document.ts"}}
will actually produce an output file
"c:\MyVideos\bjh\test with comma"
Note that this occurs both when you submit the request from the command line, and from the Windows interface after selecting the file from a file dialog.
It seems the quotes are not being respected properly, and the comma is identified as a command option separator, rather than an element of the enclosed string.
