Broken support of SubStation Alpha subtitles (SSA / ASS)
The support for SubStation Alpha subtitles (SSA / ASS) seems to have been broken about a year ago and is still broken over 2.2.x official releases: (tested on macOS)
-
up to version 2.2.4 (2-Jun-2016) it was perfectly working.
-
It seem broken in each of those stable branch versions available from http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/macosx-intel/ :
vlc-2.2.5-20160718-1406.dmg (21-Jul-2016 13:59),
vlc-2.2.5.1-20170511-0553.dmg (11-May-2017 06:05),
vlc-2.2.6.dmg (01-Jun-2017 06:05),
vlc-2.2.7.dmg (14-Sep-2017 06:05).
- nevertheless it appears to be restored in nightly build of future version 3.0.0 : vlc-3.0.0-20171030-0400-git.dmg (30-Oct-2017)
Is it possible to restore support for SubStation Alpha subtitles in current stable branch 2.2.x?
Here can be found samples of those subtitles files : https://wiki.multimedia.cx/index.php/SubStation_Alpha
The two samples attached to this ticket are from the above page (with slight changes to have the subtitles appear in the first 15 seconds of video). Regards.
