Apple Remote does not work in macOS high sierra

Hi iwant to notify that my apple remote doesn't work for the volume buttons!the others buttons are ok but it0s impossible now to regulate the volume!

Which mac version actually still supports both high sierra and an apple remote? ;-)

I think this should be pretty rare by now, so it might get hard to reproduce / test that setup.

Please also attach logs to the ticket while trying the problem. Did you select "control system volume with apple remote"? If yes, please try disabling that.

i already tried all options...none works!my apple remote can't change volume again..the other buttons are like before but the volume ones!

i have a mac mini late 2012 updated to mac osx 10.13...using vlc during a film my apple remote that normally with earlier version of mac osx til sierra i can control the reproduction with all 7 buttons...now the volume ones up and down don't work! i can disable or enable volume system in the options but it doesn't fix anything! i can't attach any file!it gives me no error it simply a button that doesn't respond!there's no error or any logs!

Exact same issue on macBook Pro "Mid-2010"

A change in high sierra that affect similarly other applications too : kodi, plex, eyeTV, ...

We are currently lacking testing devices, so we need your help to fix this problem.

@newca12, @alex: Please upload a VLC log, which will help us to investigate the issue:

1. Please open VLC
2. Goto windows -- Messages
3. Do your actions to reproduce the problem (play a file, press the volume up button once, press the volume down button once)
4. In messages panel, click on save and upload the file here

newca12: I tried to fix the issue based on your information, could you please try this nightly build of our upcoming VLC 3.0 release? http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/macosx-intel/vlc-3.0.0-20171017-0502/vlc-3.0.0-20171017-0502-git.dmg

Please try if single clicks work, please also try to keep the button pressed, it should also change the volume up / down after a while.

Your fix work like a charm. Thank you. No problem either if we keep the button pressed. Everything work as expected.

2 very minor remarks not directly related to your fix :

• a translation typo in the french version in playback control menu
• In "Control system volume mode" a message "macosx warning: we can't set the main audio devices' is emetted in debug log each time volume button is pressed but everything work as expected (it is possible that this message was already there in vlc 2.2.6)

This defect ticket could be mark as fixed.
