08 October 2015 - * New vlc:// protocol - Documentation on this feature? How to use?
I installed the Microsoft Store version of VLC (primarily because this version updates itself without any user interaction required).
One could launch the application via Windows like this:
explorer.exe shell:appsFolder\VideoLAN.VLC_paz6r1rewnh0a!App
However, due to sandbox limitations launch options are not supported. This is where the vlc:// protocol becomes handy.
But how exactly do I use this protocol? I would like to be able to do the following:
- Play all files in a specific folder
- Repeat enabled
- Full screen enabled
I have tried things like the following to no avail (from a Windows Run window):
vlc://D:\Videos\File.mp4 (VLC opens with message that video could not be found)
vlc://file=D:\Videos\File.mp4 (VLC opens and crashes shortly after)
vlc://file:D:\Videos\File.mp4 (VLC opens and crashes shortly after)
vlc://play=D:\Videos\File.mp4 (VLC opens and crashes shortly after)
vlc://play:D:\Videos\File.mp4 (VLC opens and crashes shortly after)
