Windows 10 Mobile: consistently fails to play next song and often crashes while phone is in a locked state
Imported from https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/17911
VLC for Windows (Universal)
Version 2.3.1.0
Microsoft Lumia 950XL Windows 10 Mobile (OS Build version: 10.0.14393.693)
(Unable to provide logs as the Windows Mobile version of the app does not provide this facility, plus since the Windows Mobile OS directories are effectively locked out from the user there's no way for me to check VLC's program files for logs. If in the future you were to add a function within the VLC app to create logs and save them to the users documents folder, it would make it possible for me to provide them, but until that happens, there's no way for me to create nor provide you with any logs relating to VLC's operation.)
Bug Description:
After starting playback of an album and the phone naturally shuts the screen off to go into a locked state, VLC generally continues to playback the song already started, but once the song finishes fails to start the next song on the list. This happens nearly everytime (99% of the time).
If the phone stays active (in a non-locked state), VLC will play the next song without issue. But as soon as the goes into a locked state (as it naturally would if you put your phone into your pocket while traveling and listening to an album, it will fail to play the next song on the list and often crashes as a result (found upon re-unlocking the phone to try to restart the playlist).
I have tested this with a variety of different audio files in my phone ranging from standard MP3 tracks to FLAC. All with the same result.
Due to this being a basic feature being effectively broken, it renders VLC incapable of being effectively used as a replacement for the built in music player.
Steps to Reproduce:
Start the App and navigate to an album
Start playback of an album
Put the phone in locked/standby state (ie screen off, need to unlock the phone to access apps again)
Closing Remarks:
If you have any further questions for me regarding this issue, please feel free to contact me via my registered email address.
I will help in any way I can.
P.S. As I have no programming knowledge in relation to VLC and can't work on VLC myself, I can not set the priorities and several of the other base settings for this ticket as I do not know how to nor to what many of these parameters refer to. I did use the "how to submit a ticket" page as a reference, but there was only so much I could understand. I was able to set the severity to major though since this issue is in relation to a basic feature not working properly. I apologize in advance for any incorrectly set fields.
Additional Thanks (Not necessary to read below this line, but just wanted to convey my gratitude)
I just wanted to thank all of you for the hard and outstanding work you've all done on this app. In fact, one of the features in this version of VLC, I have been desperately wanting for a year now and am so happy that you managed to make it work in this version, is the ability to play video files through an SMB network. Finally I can play all of my videos from my media server on my phone through an app. And especially without being required to download it to my phone in order to play it, which defeats the purpose of a media server. Currently, VLC is the only app I have found that is not only able to do this, but also has the codec support to allow me to play all of my videos from my media server without issue. You have no idea how happy that makes me and I can't thank you all enough for all your hard work that has now allowed me to do this. Thank you so much.
I love everything about this app on my phone. The only thing that is preventing my from using VLC as a full on replacement to the horrible built media player that comes pre-installed on my phone (Groove Music)is the bug I've highlighted in this ticket. The only wishlist feature I have for VLC hopefully in the future is to create and use my own custom equalizer settings. For now I find the headphones preset to be the best and closest to my tastes, but do hope that being able to create my own custom presets in the future happens.
Thanks again and here's hoping this is an easy enough issue to fix so I can finally get rid of the crap groove music app and fully use VLC as my main media app instead.

After starting playback of an album
Is that a local album?
comment:2 Changed 38 hours ago by ValhallasAshes Yes, it is a local album. Wait, I'll rephrase. It is local in the sense that it is on the phone itself. On an SD card that is technically considered external as opposed to local system memory. But yes, it is a local SD card. My phone only has 32GB system memory and I have 19GB of music. So I keep my music on a 128GB SD card so as not to overload the system memory for apps and games and such.
comment:3 Changed 11 hours ago by jb I have reproduced it.
comment:4 Changed 8 hours ago by ValhallasAshes Awesome. Very glad to know it's not just me. Sometimes I have to wonder lol.
