BD-J IS allowed to access network
Just want to underline, that accessing network IS a part of the BD-J specification. It's used for BD-Live.
It does require the Xlet to be signed though.
VLC currently outputs an error when the Xlet tries to create a socket connection. And when trying to create a datagram connection the Xlet seems to die completely.
This is a low priority issue though, since BD-Live (to my knowledge) pretty much isn't used anymore. And old discs that has the feature are only trying to access URLs that are dead nowadays anyway.
My own interest in this is strictly for testing homebrew BD-J games, that needs to upload/download highscores, or connecting a wifi gamepad, or offering file downloads from the disc.
As I'm probably the only one in the world with this interest, I realize this issue probably won't get any attention. It would still be nice if the Xlet at least wouldn't die completely when trying to establish a datagram connection.
