srt subtitle over dvd does't work

I have a German DVD with just German DVD subtitles.

Then I thought that VideoLAN can play a DVD with external subtitles, because I wanted to see the movie with english external subtitles.

The option is there, but when I load the srt subtitle I just can't see it.

I have VideoLAN 2.1.1 running on Windows 8.
