lag/skip/stutter on Samba access

Every day I listen to music(mp3,flac) using VLC and files on a smb share mounted to OSX 10.9.

Today after a few hours of music I upgraded VLC to Version 2.1.1 Rincewind (Intel 64bit) and now there is stuttering at the beginning of every file with the new VLC version.

Things I tried that had no effect on the stutter: Setting "File caching (ms)" to 6000. Pressing the "Reset All" button.

Playing any file on the local disk works fine.
