VLC 2.0 player disappears when exiting full screen after upgrade to Mavericks

After upgrading to Mavericks on my iMac, the VLC player disappears after exiting full screen but the program stays open because I can still hear the sound. Clicking the icon in the dock does nothing if I don't click another open program first. Here's an example: I watch a something in full screen, exit full screen, the player windows disappears but stays open and I can hear the sound. I have to click another program first like Safari, then clicking the VLC icon in the dock returns the player back to the desktop. Anyone else have this issue after upgrading to Mavericks?

It was suggested that I upgrade to 2.1, but the player upgrade option only installed 2.0.8 which did resolve my issue.
