No audio output

A long time ago.. my vlc player suddenly stopped playing audio, tried a few trials to fix it nothing happened, i just tried to use it again today same problem, so i went to tools>preferences>audio>output Module, tried all the options, only option that works is setting it to Directx audio output and having to specifically choosing my headphones to play the sound on, now only vlc plays sound on the headphones while every other application plays on the laptops speakers. It seems that for some reason vlc has messed up my default audio output device. P.S i have deleted vlc(everything related i believe) and reinstalled it and nothing happened.
