Can't play .pls

Hi, I'm trying to play a .pls file using VLC Media Player, however I simply can't get it to play. I've tried different things, like saving the .pls file and opening it manually from the player, typing in the url in 'Open Network Stream', opening the file directly from the site etc. But none are working, the player opens, the file is listed, but nothing is playing. I posted this problem on the forums (http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=110653) and was told to come here. I don't know what the 'messages log' that user speaks of though.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, and using the latest 2.06 version of VLC. I don't really know what my hardware details are to be honest. I'm on a HP dv7 laptop, that's about the best I can tell you =/

P.S. I've had the file working fine using WinAmp on a different computer as recently as a week ago, so I know there's not a problem with the file itself. I just don't want to have to install a program for the sake of one thing, I'd rather just have VLC to cover everything. Thanks in advance
