Resizing screen window causes video to go blank

When I'm in the middle of playing a video file (.avi), if I go to manually resize the screen by pulling at the corner of VLC, the video feed will stop. Audio will continue normally, so it's not a crash. I tried closing out of the program and restarting it, but video does not resume, even at the beginning of the file. I tried loading a different file, but the problem persists. I have not altered any settings in VLC, so they're all already set to standard. If I reboot my computer completely, the problem is resolved until the next time I try to resize the VLC window.
