Convert/Save crashes VLC media player 2.0.4 Twoflower.
I was using the recent VLC 2.0.4 TwoFlowers release with no additional plugins or extensions. I've recorded several audio streams as separate files using the default .asf file format (I wish I knew how to change this default to the mp3 format by the way). When I try to convert any of the .asf files to the .mp3 format using the Media, Convert/Save (Ctrl-R) feature; VLC the application terminates abnormally without warning.
I select an input .asf file and add it to the File Selection section. I left click on the "Convert/Save" button, I select the "Audio - MP3" Profile option and specify the Destination file and path. Lastly, I left click on the "Start" button. The process runs for a few seconds then VLC crashes. A small mp3 file is created with just a few KB, or 0 KB, of data. When I restart VLC, a report is sent to the FTP server. This issue is very repeatable. I have not tried to convert using audio formats other than mp3.
I successfully re-installed the 2.0.4 release; but had the same experience with the application crashing. I returned to the 2.0.3 release and the conversion is working again. It would appear this issue is limited to the 2.0.4 release.
I have a Dell XPS Model WHL desktop computer running Windows XP Professional 32 bit (SP3 with all the latest patches); Phoenix ROM BIOS Plus Version 1.10 A07; 4GB Ram; Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU (3.40 GHz); Radion x850 XT Platinum Edition video card (250 MB memory); 294 GB hard drive (201 GB free) NTFS format. The sound card is a Creative Labs SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio [CCC0] card (5.1 speaker system). Diagnostics on the sound card show everything working, but I haven't updated the drivers in several years (it works, why fix it).
Please let me know if you require further information.
