negative time subtitle synchronization causes playback halts

When adjusting subtitles into the negative by using the g hotkey, video playback begins to stutter and leave out audio parts. The bigger the offset, the more severe the problem becomes. This makes it near impossible to find the correct offset if the video is behind the subtitles too much, because every time I hit the g key, I have to wait for a few seconds until playback continues normally.
