Transcode does not upmix mono to stereo
I often want to convert Videos from my Digicam to a DVD. The sound of the Video is in mono (like the most amount of Digicams). Then I'm trying to convert it with VLC, VLC itself plays no sound. The Problem: The sound is still in mono marked, although I set the Option "audiofile-channels=2". This works not at my Digicam-Video. Using "Super" from erightsoft this Program is able to convert the sound track to stereo, although it's using the similar ffmepg etc.-files to convert.
I tried it with this Parameter:
-vvv %Videodatei_in% --sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp2v,vb=%Videobitrate%,fps=25,maxwidth=720,maxheight=576,acodec=mp2,channels=2,ab=%Audiobitrate%,samplerate=48000}:es{access-audio=file,mux-audio=raw,dummy,dst-audio=%Videodatei_audio_out%,access-video=file,mux-video=raw,dummy,dst-video=%Videodatei_video_out%}
but the sound is still in mono.
The same then it's convertet to wav-Audio:
-vvv %Videodatei_in% --sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp2v,vb=%Videobitrate%,fps=25,maxwidth=720,maxheight=576,acodec=s16l,ab=1536,channels=2,samplerate=48000}:es{access-audio=file,mux-audio=wav,dummy,dst-audio=%Videodatei_audio_out%,access-video=file,mux-video=raw,dummy,dst-video=%Videodatei_video_out%}
I uploaded for you my examples: http://www.sendspace.com/file/122iej
- the original avi-file with mono-sound
- the file converted to mpg with super from erightsoft, with stereo-sound
- the file convertet with VLC to separete files for video and sound, the sound still in mono.
The sound should be convertet to stereo (with to identic channels) for a good compatibility for DVD. For example VLC itself can't play DVD-Files with a mono-sound!

used Parameter in my autohotkey-skript (Variables in "%%"): -vvv %Videodatei_in% --sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp2v,vb=%Videobitrate%,fps=25,maxwidth=720,maxheight=576,acodec=mp2,audiofile-channels=2,ab=%Audiobitrate%,samplerate=48000}:es{access-audio=file,mux-audio=raw,dummy,dst-audio=%Videodatei_audio_out%,access-video=file,mux-video=raw,dummy,dst-video=%Videodatei_video_out%}
Comment: audiofile-channels is ONLY for the file audio output, not for transcode. Use channels.
