Ideas to improve VLC windows update/installation
Windows update of VLC has always seemed tedious to me.
- You're asked if you want to uninstall the previous version. Why? Is there a difference? If there is, probably most users don't know it and decide randomly. I suggest just doing what you guys think it's best.
- In the installation, you're asked for the file associations, direct links in start menu and desktop, ... Those preferences should be kept from the previous install and not bother the user.
- The update 'popup' blocks the video window, preventing from controlling it. It should let you update silently in the background, and unobtrusely ask for a restart once ready. Hey, I'm trying to watch a movie! :)
All in all, I guess I'm looking fo a mac-like thing, with e.g. sparkle. Stuck with win at home though. I've seen there's something called winsparkle that can be of use, but don't know if it's mature enough.
