Ideas to improve VLC windows update/installation

Windows update of VLC has always seemed tedious to me.

  • You're asked if you want to uninstall the previous version. Why? Is there a difference? If there is, probably most users don't know it and decide randomly. I suggest just doing what you guys think it's best.
  • In the installation, you're asked for the file associations, direct links in start menu and desktop, ... Those preferences should be kept from the previous install and not bother the user.
  • The update 'popup' blocks the video window, preventing from controlling it. It should let you update silently in the background, and unobtrusely ask for a restart once ready. Hey, I'm trying to watch a movie! :)

All in all, I guess I'm looking fo a mac-like thing, with e.g. sparkle. Stuck with win at home though. I've seen there's something called winsparkle that can be of use, but don't know if it's mature enough.

To upload designs, you'll need to enable LFS and have an admin enable hashed storage. More information
