VLC locks up or crashes when restarting finished video

On Mac OS 10.7:

(0) clear preferences, restart VLC, enable Lion fullscreen mode, restart VLC)

1. Play a video in VLC

2. Make VLC fullscreen

3. Let the video end, then press play to play it again

The VLC will crash, or the GUI will lock up while the video's audio continues to play normally.
