crashes on quit

Every time I quit VLC 2.01 PPC 32bit on my Dual 2.0 G5 it grabs control of my screen and mouse while the beach ball spins until the crash is over. It's not frozen, but any other usage is prevented as no other apps can be reached during the 30 seconds or so this process takes.
