Mac OS X - Drop media / Playlist display issues

Open VLC.

Click playlist button to collapse, then click it again and playlist appears briefly and then Drop media here appears, but it's pushed up toward the top of the window.

If one option-clicks the playlist button first to see the playlist and then collapses and uncollapses the playlist, it switches back to the Drop media here as above. It probably should remember the chosen state if possible to prevent flickering of other states.
