audio passthrough to HDMI broken

AC3 passthrough to HDMI seems is currently broken for me. Was working before with VLC 1.1.13. Besides 2.0.0 also the daily build revision 2.1.0~~git20120221+r1232 from ppa:videolan/master-daily is affected.

Platform: Ubuntu Oneiric 11.10, Nvidia 8200 Settings: Output module-> ALSA, Use S/PDIF when available, Device: HDA NVidia, HDMI 0 Direct hardware device without any conversions

Result:

[0x9aa8050] main audio output error: conversion pipeline failed: a52  -> a52 
[0x9aa8050] main audio output error: cannot setup filtering pipeline
[0xb74102b0] main decoder error: failed to create audio output
