VLC 1.1.10.11 breaks Encoded Output option on OS X Snow Leopard

After upgrading from 1.1.10.1 to 1.1.10.11 the Encoded Output option disappeared from the Output Device sub menu of the Audio menu. I am no longer able to get encoded DTS/Dolby output sent via an optical audio cable (S/PDIF). Downgrading to 1.1.10.1 fixes the problem. Others in the VLC forum are reporting the same issue with the same fix.
