vlc freezes when I try to open a file, language var problem

Hi.

Whenever I try to open a file (Menu Media -> Open file) with vlc it freezes and I have to kill the process. It does not happen if I open the file directly, like from dolphin. I use Kubuntu 10.10 x86_64.

I tried "export LANGUAGE=english|en_US", but it didn't work.
