vlc 1.1.x quiting via OS X script problems

Since vlc 1.1.0, there is a strange behaviour when trying to quit by using an applescript. Vlc closes the movie window, and then shows its menubar and playlist window until a keyboard key is pressed or I move the mouse. I've tried versions 1.1.0, 1.1.1 and all nightly builds but found the same behaviour. Version 1.0.5 was the last known to me that was working correctly. I'm using a macbook pro running 10.6.4 with all patches applied.
