Setting multicast TTL through GUI doesn't work

Streaming to a multicast address, when set the TTL value in the GUI has no effect, but writing "--ttl value" in the command line works.

I tested it using vlc 1.0.5 for OSX (both PPC and Intel) and Windows. Also with vlc 0.99 for Linux.
