This got nothing to do with the vout core, but with the Qt4 interface, since this behavior is supported on the Mac.

WTF?! The UI has no access to the inhibitor, and the inhibitor is independent of the UI.

The video output core needs to pass the video state downstream to fix this.

Please stop with the me too's. Nobody denies that this is an undesirable limitation. We need a patch, not a me too now.

The ticket system used for VLC really suchs. Simple searchin works badly, how about just put in all matches in one page and then one can easily do a refined search with ctrl+f in their browser.

How about putting in references for duplicate issues?

Seems that many duplicates exists for the really irritating "prevent screen saver from kicking in". I'm really frustrated to get back to my computer to find out that the win8 lock screen still shows because I forgot to exit VLC player. Screensaver will never kick in, fullscreen or not, when VLC is running. Really amazed how this matter seem to have been ignored since 2.0.0, where at 2.1.3.

Can this get fixed with some prio soon? Or one has to start developing a brand new player which can handle at least this simple functionality?

This issue has been bugging me for years. Looks like it's time to try something else other than vlc.

Sorry for the pointless comment, but seeing that the issue for one of the most annoying things in vlc has been opened for 5 years and hasn't been addressed still is a very sad experience.

Is this ever going to be fixed? I just noticed (and was about to report) this exact same issue; I left a video paused thinking my computer would just go to sleep, come back and its been awake for four hours.

Many other media players do this correctly; let display sleep if no video component (i.e- music), let system sleep if neither audio or video is active.
