Auto-adjusting "caching value" for "File" input access module
When a video file is opened in a remote shared folder on the same LAN, the default "caching value" value of 300ms is too small to provide smooth playback over 802.11g WiFi on Windows Vista (for the files/bitrates that I tried to play).
The value can be set to 30000ms in "Tools>Preferences>(Show Settings: All)>Input/Codecs>Access Modules>File>Caching Value in ms" making the playback smooth, and removing the stutter.
Can this caching value be set dynamically and automatically based on how fast the buffer got filled (or is getting filled) and based on the bitrate of current file (video+audio)?
I suspect I am one of many users who experience stuttering when trying to play a remote shared file over WiFi, and form an opinion about VLC based on this.
You guys are doing a great job, and I wanted to help in a way that I can - by pointing out a way to improve...
