Codec FFVH (ffmpeg/libav Huffyuv) is detected but not supported for playback

Codec not supported: VLC could not decode the format "FFVH" (Huff YUV Video)

The video in an AVI file with the FourCC "FFVH" is correctly detected as "Huff YUV Video", plugins\codec\libavcodec_plugin.dll even contains several references (e.g. "Error: YV12 is not supported by huffyuv; use vcodec=ffvhuff or format=422p"); yet playback is not supported.
