Audio delay using AirPlay on Apple TV after latest update

new here - just made an account to post this since i havent seen any one mention it. looks like an update to the VLC app on Apple TV was made available yesterday, and since then i get a 1-2 second audio delay using AirPlay with my Airport Express. both the Apple TV (A1842) and Airport Express (2nd gen) are on the latest software/firmware so i believe they use AirPlay 2. tried rebooting both several times but no luck. just figured i'd report it since every thing was working perfectly prior to this app update.
