multi-part rar movie has several playback issues

When extracting the multi-part rar file everything plays fine in VLC, however when playing par1.rar as is, there are several issues:

Movie duration is not displayed, only current time.
Seeking forward with right arrow doesn't work properly, moves slider to 0 seconds again.
One subtitle channel is detected but it's not displayed over the video.
