VLC doesn't work on ChromeOS
On ChromeOS, The app installs but gets stuck on a splash screen. zero functionality.
Lots of people reporting this bug as a bad review on the [ChromeOS store] (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/vlc/obpdeolnggmbekmklghapmfpnfhpcndf/related?hl=en&u_producttype=chrome-extension-96603&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2cWgBhDYARIsALggUhpbQ-s4vwYqBVIa61qRor1L6SijK_HPI03to3OYqEBRNMJA_g94xNMaAhVyEALw_wcB). There are months (years) of bad reviews right up to the present day, reporting that the app doesn't work on ChromeOS.
I guess Chromebook users don't report bugs here, but I too have experienced this problem.
I have no idea what the problem is, BUT, worth noting that there are a millions of working Chromebooks that are "No longer eligible for updates" to ChromeOS, and thus using older versions of ChromeOS. This may be a contributing factor. The Chrome browser works fine and these are still completely usable Chromebooks, so I'd argue that VLC should support them as well.
I replicated this bug on
- Acer Chromebook 14 CB3-431 running ChromeOS version Version 103.0.5060.132 (official build) (64-bit)
- Samsung Chromebook 500C running ChromeOS version 103.0.5060.123 (official build) (64-bit)
