Windows 11 SMB shared folder and Fritz!Box SMB shared folder not found

As far as I understand it, this might be related to the Media Discoverer "microdns" in libVLC.

The Windows 11 folder is just shared with right click - properties - sharing - share. I believe this would be based on SMB2 or SMB3. The Fritz!Box 7490 offers a shared network drive. Support for using smbV1 is enabled for it. Both require a username and password to be accessed, but finding it should work without credentials. Both show up in Windows 11 under network in the Explorer.

Windows 11 SMB shared folder not found

  • I do NOT see it in VLC Player Windows 3.0.18 under Local Network – mDNS Network Discovery
  • I do NOT see it in VLC Player Windows 4.0.0-dev under Browse – My LAN
  • I do (!) see it VLC Android 3.5.3 on Samsung S22 Ultra
  • From a second Windows 11 PC in the same local network, I can find it and access it

Fritz!Box SMB share

  • I do NOT see it in VLC Player Windows 3.0.18 under Local Network – mDNS Network Discovery
  • I do NOT see it in VLC Player Windows 4.0.0-dev under Browse – My LAN
  • I do (!) see it in VLC Android 3.5.3 on Samsung S22 Ultra
