Outdated GitHub mirror misleads users trying to update youtube.lua

I've encountered this problem before as have many other users. I've tried the usual solution (updating the youtube.luac file), but it didn't work. ):
I'm on Linux Mint 20 and VLC has been downloaded through the app repository.
Error message here, if it is of any use:

lua error: Couldn't extract youtube video URL, please check for updates to this script
main info: playlist is empty
