VLC ignores prefered audio language settings

Hello I am using VLC 3.0.16 and I am trying to set the default audio stream to Japanese. In the preferences I tried putting jap/japanese/jpn/ja in the default audio stream option but it will still default to English.

This is probably a bug as it works with other players like MPV.
