VLC 4.0 (snap version): `libvlc_pulse.so` causes very low framerate on Arch Linux on Dell Latitude 5591
Snap version: 20220728-0219 28-Jul-2022 02:19
I wanted to try VLC 4.0 on my laptop, so I install the snap package. However, I discovered that the FPS is very low (in contrast to my desktop PC with AMD GPU, where it ran smoothly).
In an attempt to discover the exact reason for VLC snap's poor performance, I extracted the snap archive (by mounting it as squashfs), and removed various components.
I discovered that if I remove libvlc_pulse.so* from LD_LIBRARY_PATH, the video plays smoothly with expected FPS.
BTW, my diagnostic process would have been easier if VLC 4.0 nightly was released as a Tarball instead of a Snap.
