CPU at 20-30% on MacBook Pro - coreaudiod

2019 Intel MacBook Pro running Monterey 12.4
Noticed that coreaudiod was consistently pegging my CPU at 25-30% with fans running constantly
Closed all browser windows, nothing changed
VLC was open but audio was stopped
Closed VLC and coreaudiod immediately stopped using the CPU
The last thing I played with VLC was a FLAC but audio was stopped for over 12 hours.
