vlc pauses and resumes playback randomly

fresh installation of the latest vlc 3.0.16 vetinari, on windows 11 en on lenovo yoga 9 14IAP7 I have various avi/mkv regular movie files on local disc, and sometimes every ~2mins, sometimes not for 30mins, the VLC app pauses the video. Sometimes the video unpauses by itself after a while, sometimes I have to do it manually with spacebar or play button.
